Happy New Year Everyone! My laptop is out of service right now so I haven’t been able to crunch end of year numbers on my investment portfolios, but that will be coming in the next few days. With markets closed today, I figured it’s a good time to reflect on the past year and share my investment resolutions for this year. I’ve broken them down into two categories - resolutions for my growth as an investor and resolutions for TheCuriousInvestor.com.
Investment Resolutions
- Stay disciplined and committed to my current strategies. It seems that my stock picking strategies have revealed some great picks over the last few months. I know that it may be difficult to keep up the near-term performance, but I believe that, if I stick to my guns, I should never repeat the embarassing losses I suffered early in the year.
- Learn more about investing internationally. I’ve dabbled a bit in ADRs and thought about purchasing some ETFs, but I’ve always been a bit fearful of stocks outside of the United States. It’s probably irrational and I know there is a lot of growth to be found and it’s about time that I made a concerted effort to find those opportunities.
- Develop a passive investment strategy. With a full-time job looming in the future, it may become more difficult for me to pursue the kinds of active strategies that I currently run for The Curious Investor. Granted, I haven’t turned over the portfolios much if at all over the last few months, but my current strategies are designed to buy and sell at a moments notice. The Curious Investments Equity Income Strategy is off to an inauspicious start and it would seem I have much to learn about longterm buy and hold strategies.
The Curious Investor Resolutions
- Increase traffic! As with any blog writer, its great to get feedback and visits and know that people appreciate your input. I would love to double unique visitorship to 4000 a month and hope to keep visitors visiting twice or more a month. Also, I encourage all of you to comment on posts and subscribe via the subscription links to the left!
- Improve the Site Design. I’ve been writing this blog for over a year now and, while I thought the design was nice at the beginning, changes in the content displayed as well as more use have showed me that there are a lot of areas where readability and useability could be improved. I’d like to improve the navigation system to allow visitors an easier time finding old articles and also improve the readability. Not sure when I’ll find the time or the inspiration for a new look, but I’m working on it!
- Continue to write regularly. I’ve been a little weak in my posting frequency the last few weeks which I hope is more an aberration than anything else. (It was the holidays afterall.) I want to continue to bring quality content to this blog and welcome any suggestions as far as topics readers think I should cover.
Well, those are my resolutions concerning my investing and this site over the next year. Hopefully, these are a few resolutions that are attainable. But, who knows. What are your investment resolutions for the upcoming year?
