Weekend Recap – August 16, 2009
First and foremost, I’d like to welcome any new readers who have made their way over from Pinnacle Digest. a Canadian investing community, featuring a lot of really great content including market analysis and other commentary. Pinnacle and The Curious Investor have formed a new link/content sharing partnership and, in honor of the partnership, I’m bringing back the TCI Weekend Recap. Hopefully, this time I’ll be able to keep this a regular weekend feature.
Without further ado, here are a few articles I found particularly compelling this week:
- Pinnacle Digest metals and mining columnist, Larry Reaugh, asks “Are specialty metals next in the super cycle?“
- David Gordon of The Deipnosophist gives us two of his prized stock picks. (David’s blog is where I learned the art of “long term technical analysis” paired with fundamental research. He’s good. Real good.)
- For the income oriented investor, Dividend Growth Investor shares his list of companies which have raised their dividend this year.
- Bespoke Investment Group notes that John Paulson (through his hedge fund) has begun acquiring financial shares. In fact, a survey of 13F shows many fund managers are overweight financials. Is it time that we go long too?
- So, Amazon bought Zappos. Ever wonder how venture capital millions are made? TechCrunch has the details on what the investors brought home.
- And, finally, check out this awesome new search engine which could change everything (no it’s not Bing). For those wanting to get ahead, this new tool will serve as inspiration for one of my upcoming posts.
That’s it for this week. I hope this list becomes longer and better organized in the future. If you think you have some great content to add to this weekly segment, feel free to post them in the comments or use the contact form to get in touch with me about sponsoring one of the Weekend Recaps.
Finnaly, a note for those still reading, you may have noticed that my posts have become more irregular of late. I started this blog focusing on tutorials for the beginning investor and it seems I’ve run out of things to write quick tutorials on. If anyone has any questions or stocks they’d like to see me write up/do some anaylsis on, feel free to leave a comment or use the “contact” link on the site and I’ll do my best to give you some personalized feedback via the blog!
